RECEii/E®
C.B. MINERALS COMPANY, LLC
COAL RIDGE NO. 1 MINE
IMPOUNDMENT YEARLY INSPECTION
APR 0 9 2003
Oivisian at Minerals and Geology
In accordance with Rule 4.05.9(14), all impoundments shall be inspected at least yearly
to determine if the impoundment has been maintained as designed, and in accordance
with the approved plan and the applicable regulations. This yearly inspection is for the
impoundment located at the Coal Ridge No. 1 Mine.
On April 5, 2003 I performed the required yearly inspection. I, J. E. Stover, have a wide
variety experience in the design and construction of earth fill embankments. Nothing
was observed during the inspection that would indicate the pond has a potential for
failure.-There was no-appearance of erosion,-instability, structural weakness~or other -~-
hazardous conditions. There are no required monitoring procedures or instrumentation
other than quarterly and yearly inspections. There are no aspects which might affect
stability and there is no required maintenance. The east and west cells of the pond
were dry.
The sediment pond has the following capacity:
Note:
IMPOUNDMENT CAPACITIES -ACRE FEET
. Water Sediment Total
Sediment Pond 6.34 0.90 7.24
Capacities are derived from Figure 4.3-fi, Issue No. 1 dated 7/27/00 and
verification of sediment level relative to primary spillway.
To the best of my knowledge and belief, the impoundment has been maintained as
designed and in accordance with the approved plan and applicable regulations.
°°°p~RE
•~o~p~,..t.
iv ~ ```5
- -..
• i James
[nglneer
19230
4~a3
Date
V A~ e
