• <br />Identifiable on drill logs from the Permit Area. No sandstone units <br />could be correlated over a large enough area to be considered as <br />potential aquifers within the VenneJo Formation. <br />Hydraulic conductivity for the VerneJo Formation as a whole was <br />estimated at 10-3 feet per day to 10 feet per day In a previous study <br />(a). The lower estimate was confirmed by slug tests performed on <br />Monitoring Welis M10, A16, and 123, which resulted In' conductivity <br />figures of 1 X 10-3 feet per day, 6 X 10~ feet per day, and 7 X 10~ <br />feet per day, respectively. Perforated casing sections and well <br />locations can be examined on the Hydrology Map, sheet 3. Perforated <br />Intervals include coal seams as well as sandstone/shale sequences. The <br />slug test data Ts seen as a rough estimate of aquifer properties within <br />the perforated interval, and serves to confirm the earlier estimates. <br />• Water within the VermeJo Formation has been used for domestic and <br />Industrial purposes since the beginning of coal-resource development in <br />the basin. No standard water wells were found to be producing from the <br />formation, but a nunber of well permits were Issued for wells which pure <br />from abandoned mine workings. Table 2.04.7 (1) and Figure 2.04.7 (lc) <br />shay well permit data for the general area. It appears that physical <br />alteration (by mining) of zones within the Vennelo Formation Is <br />necessary Co provide decent well yields. Even the Tawn of Coalcreek <br />uses a well which taps the Inactive Caldirola mine. <br />[t Is evident from monitoring well rewrds that a piezometric <br />surface exists in the Permit Area which Is higher In elevation than the <br />seam proposed for mining. Purpirg water Is a necessary part of the <br />mining process In areas where ground water exists, and the lav <br />transmtssivlty of the coal seam and surrounding geologic units should <br />serve to keep the collected water volume within reasonable limits. It <br />Is expected that the non~oal inlts within the VertneJo Formation will <br />exhibit the same northwest-southeast linear trends that exist in the <br />• underlying Trinidad Sandstone, and that these trends will favor <br />groundwater movement parallel to the trend as opposed to vertical <br />movement. Ground water can also be expected to mwe more freely <br />11 <br />
