• cTDROLOGY
Surface Water Hydrology

The Joint Venture lease tracts lie in three surface water drainage
basins. As shown on plate III, only a very small portion of the
lease in section 26 T20S R70W lies in the Coal Creek and Second Alkali
Creek drainages. The remainder of the lease area lies in the drainage
of Newlin Creek. The iiewlin drainage can be further subdivided on the
lease into a northern sub-basin, a main basin and a southern sub-basin.
Newlin Creek joins Hardscrabble Creek in'Section 2,T20S,R69W and
flows ultimately into the Arkansas River.
foal Creek and second Alkali-Creek are ephemeral streams, running
• only during the spring runnoff or after storms. Newlin Creek is
mapped as a perennial stream on the lease tract, however, the drainage
was dry during afield investigation in February 1979. In a discussion
with the Manager of the Dept. of Water for the City of Florence, it was
learne3 that Newlin Creek is not perennial and that when flows do exist
in the stream they are diverted into a pipeline in Section 35 T205 R70W
which is part of the water supply system for the City of Florence. Only
during high runnoff or severe storms will water now flow in the
\ewlin Creek drainage across the lease tract. No flows have been observe
in the creek in the past two years.

-5- 3-5
