GRAND JUNCTION
1 LINCOLN DeVORE, Inc.
GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERS—GEOLOGISTS
' 1441 Motor St. TEL: (970)242-8968
Grand Junction,CO 81505 FAX: (970)242-1561
1
' March 24, 1997
' Mr. Ed Settle
Grand Junction Pipe
PO Box 1849
' Grand Junction,CO 91502
Re: Surficial Geology Investigation
' Proposed Clifton Water Pit, 34 & E 1/4 Roads,Clifton, CO
Dear Mr. Settle.
' At%our request.personnel from this office have completed a ground reconnaissance of the above referenced site
in order to determine the general geologic conditions and constraints relating to development of an aggregate
mineral extraction pit, to be known as the Clifton Water Pit. Following are our findings.
' TRACT LOCATION & DESCRIPTION
' The tract lies mthin Lot 10.the SW Quarter of Section 7. To%%nship I S. Range 2E of the Utc Principal Meridian
in Mesa County Colorado. The tract is bounded on the cast by the Colorado River, and the west be the Clifton
Water Treatment Plant and by the Bounds Pit to the north. The tract contains approximately I I acres.
' The topography of the tract is quite Oat.with a general slope to the south and with an elevation of appro.ximalch
4650 feel above mean sea Icvcl, using the U.S.G.S. 7-1/2 minute mapping of the Clifton quadrangle. Thc trace
' is lvilhin the active Flood plain of the Colorado Rivcr and exhibits subdued topographic features which are
common to the Colorado River Flood plain in this area.
The tract has been used for%m limited agricultural purposes in the past . The tract does not appear to have been
' subject toon site irrigation. The tract is drained toward the south, and eventually entering the Colorado Rircr.
Surface drainage is poor and the subsurface drainage is fair.
' GENERAL GEOLOGY
The general geology of this area consists of a thick series of northeast, gently dipping sedimentarY beds.col cred
' pith thin to thick deposits of unconsolidated alluvial soils. The area geology. within this portion of the Grand
Valley 1s rclauvelx simple, with no extensive folding or faulting of the underlying formations.
' Seismic dents ha\c occurred near. and possibly, in the Grand Vo0ey area. These events were evaluated as
hating Richter Magnitudes up to and including 4.4, eilh no reported damages.
1 i
