st Co
ts, Inc.
Geotechnical f Environmental Engineering • Materials Testing
Subject: Marr Mine -Permit No. C-80-006
Permit No. C-80-006
Jackson County, Colorado
Dear Mr. Bumell:
September 13, 2005
Mr. Jim Bumell
Colorado Department of Natural Resources
Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman Street Rm. 215
Denver. CO 80203
Project No~~1VED
SEP 15 2005
Diwvon o(Minerals antl Geology
NWCC, Inc. is pleased to provide you with the certified sediment pond inspections for the Marr
Mine located in Jackson County, Colorado. Brian D. Len, P.E. and Robert J. Peterson from
NWCC conducted the inspection on August 18, 2005. The purpose of the inspection was to
provide annual certification by a Professional Engineer registered in the state of Colorado. The
inspection included Ponds A through G for the mine area and the pond situated at the Tipple.
The inspection forms are attached for each pond and the results of the inspection are
summarized below. Photographs taken during the inspection are available upon request.
All ponds, embankments and spillways were functioning as designed and intended. All ponds
except Pond G contained some water. No water levels were at the designed point of discharge
but some discharge was observed at Ponds D and E due to slight seepage into the discharge
pipe. We observed both sides of each embankment, the crest, the primary-and emergency
spillway structures, the outlet pipes, weirs and discharge areas for each pond. There are no
actions required for any pond for immediate health or safety concerns. We have made
recommendations for several action items particularly associated with the ponds with a
permanent status (A, B, D and E). The recommendations were made to maintain or improve
the function and safety of the noted dam/pond. No actions are waranted for the temporary
ponds that will be reclaimed in the near future.
Please contact the undersigned with questions or comments on the inspections.
Sincerely,
NWCC, INC.
Robert J.
