EXHIBIT J — VEGETATION INFORMATION
Current and historic agricultural activities (i.e., farming and livestock grazing) has
significantly disturbed the native vegetation on most of the property north of the
' Arkansas River (North Mining Area). The locations of vegetation types on the
' permit area are shown on Figure C in Exhibit C, Aerial photo/Property
Ownership.
' Vegetation within the proposed North Mining Area of the property currently
consists primarily of irrigated crops, with some poor quality pastureland. This
area is within the designated 100-year flood plain. The farmland areas of the
' property have been cultivated for over 50 years.
The South Borrow Pit Area has been previously disturbed due to the mining of
' borrow material by a former property owner. The remaining land to be excavated
' within this area contains poor quality vegetation due to soil type and historic
rangeland practices.
' The pastureland within the North Mining Area has some remaining native
vegetation and generally consists of grasses, predominantly blue grams, western
wheatgrass, and bluestem, and shrubs. Scattered cottonwoods and willows
' occur in the areas near (within 200 feet) and adjacent to the Arkansas River.
Additional information concerning the native vegetation for each of the soil types
1
' 37
