1 • s
1 '
EXHIBIT H —WILDLIFE INFORMATION
' Current and historic agricultural activities (i.e., farming and livestock grazing)
have significantly disturbed what would otherwise be the natural wildlife habitat
' on the proposed permit area north of the Arkansas River. Cultivation of crops
' has occurred on approximately 70 percent of the North Mining Area.
Areas adjacent to and within approximately 200 feet of the Arkansas River
' consist of lowland riparian habitat. A setback of 200 ft. will be maintained around
this area to protect the riparian habitat area from disturbance. This area makes
1 up about 10 percent of the North Mining Area, leaving approximately 20 percent
1 of the area as poor quality pastureland. Vegetation types on the permit area,
1 helping to define wildlife habitat, are shown on Figure C of Exhibit C.
' The proposed mining activities may temporarily displace some local wildlife due
1 to disturbances during operations, however, wildlife is expected to be re-
established after mining is completed and reclamation is in place. The proposed
reclamation plan will restore the land to habitat capable of supporting a greater
' wildlife population than currently exists on the proposed permit area. The lake
that will be formed from the mining north of the Arkansas River will provide
1 valuable habitat for waterfowl and migratory bird species.
1 31
