Advanced planning should
enable you to avoid or minimize the disturbances on steep terrain. The following
revegetation guidelines are suggested.
******Large areas of disturbance shall be graded and shaped to blend in with the
surrounding topography. The soil should be packed to remove looseness.
' ******Large areas of disturbance shall be mulched to prevent soil erosion while the
vegetation is establishing. This can be accomplished using oat straw or native grass hay
10 inch in length and spread evenly over the area at a rate of two tons per acre and
crimped into the soil three to four inches deep. Sandy soils (i.e. loamy sands or courser
surface textures) should have 'chunky" manure spread over the disturbed area at a rate of
' twenty tons per acre followed by the straw or grass hay mulching application described
above.
' ******Enhance soil fertility to aid seedling establishment through the application of about
40 pounds per.acre of available nitrogen and phosphorus.
' ******Overly compacted soils resulting from equipment traffic should be ripped or
subsoiled, smoothed, and then packed to the required firmness.
' ******The most successful seeding window for southeastern Colorado is from about
November 15 through April 30. The optimum planting depths for the recommended seed
' mixtures is one half to three fourths of an inch with firm soil coverage surrounding the
