to
' INTRODUCTION
All Rite Paving and Redi-Mix is making application to the Colorado Division of
Mines and Geology to mine, process, and batch aggregate materials from
Mapproximately 275.45 acres of land located in Otero County, Colorado near the
town of La Junta and north of and adjacent to the Arkansas River (North Mining
' Area). Also, as part of this 275.45 acre permit application, the operator is
1 requesting to remove sand and gravel fill from an area south of the Arkansas
River that has previously been disturbed for this purpose (South Borrow Pit
Area). These locations are more accurately described in Exhibit A, Legal
Description, and shown on Exhibit B, Index Map.
' The proposed North Mining Area is currently utilized as farm and pastureland
' and has been used for that purpose for over 50 years. Property surrounding this
land is also used for farmland, except for one parcel that contains North La
' Junta's sewage treatment plant and lagoons. Almost all the property north of the
river is located within the designated 100-year flood plain, including the sewage
lagoons.
The proposed South Borrow Pit Area south of the Arkansas River is located
outside and above the 100-year floodplain. The only use of the majority of this
land has been for borrow material by a previous owner. This area has not been
farmed, although a small portion was used to corral livestock at some time in the
past.
1
