Precipitation was estimated using Colorado Climate Center Website data. Annual precipitation
at this site was assumed equal to the precipitation at the nearest station, which is the Greeley
UNC Weather Station. The annual mean precipitation is 14.2 inches. Effective precipitation
was calculated as 70% of total precipitation. Net evaporation was then computed as the
difference between gross evaporation and effective precipitation. Net evaporation at the site was
calculated to be 2.9 feet.
The total exposed surface azea at the site that requires augmentation is 56.9 acres (Figure G-]).
The total evaporative consumptive use for the site will be 166.2 acre-feet per yeaz.
The moisture content of the material transported off the site was assumed to be 4% by weight as
required by the SEO. The annual amount of mined product for the pit is estimated at 100,000
tons. This results in 2.9 acre-feet of water retained in the product mined annually.
Dust control is required for internal haul roads and stockpiles. When mining commences at the
25'h Avenue site, it is anticipated 1.0 acre-foot will be required for dust control as was previously
used in the Greeley West substitute supply plan.
The estimated total annual consumptive use associated with the mining operation is summarized
as follows:
Consumptive Use Annual Water Loss (acre-ft)
Evaporation 166.2
Moisture Retained in Product 2.9
Dust Control 1.0
Total 170.2
Sources of Water
The SEO tracks the substitute supply plan for each mining site by the DMG number. When a
number is assigned by the DMG, the City of Greeley will complete a new substitute water supply
plan and well permit application for the 25's Avenue site. The new plan will be submitted to the
State Engineer's Office and will make replacements for the depletions from the mining
operation.
The City of Greeley will provide augmentation water for the substitute supply plan by making
releases of reusable effluent from the wastewater treatment plant to make replacements for
mining depletions. 'This replacement source is regularly accepted in substitute supply plans by
the SEO in this reach of the Poudre River.
Surrounding WaterRiQhis
As mentioned previously, the 25`h Avenue site lies inside the Greeley West permit boundary.
The Greeley West Pit has operated with a substitute supply plan since 1990 without injury to
surrounding water rights. On February 21, 2001, Deputy Water Commissioner Mark Simpson
completed a 600-foot well permit inspection of the Greeley West Pit for a new well permit
25id Avenue Srte
DMG 1 /2 Permit
Page IJ
