EXHIBIT D
Mining Plan
The City of Greeley proposes to re-mine the 25'n Avenue site in Weld County, Colorado. The
City of Greeley lies approximately 1-'/~ miles south and east of the property. The site is to the
south of the Cache la Poudre River and hetween North 25"'Avenue and North 35`h Avenue.
This site was previously owned by Flatiron Companies and mined by Lafarge and is part of a
larger active mine site (M-1977-081). Greeley has purchased a portion of the mine site known as
the 25`h Avenue Site (Parcel A) to further develop as lined water storage. The site currently
consists of two partially reclaimed groundwater ponds and a perimeter access road. Western
Mobile Inc., dba Lafarge NA, will be asking for release on this parcel concurrent with this permit
application.
The site is bounded by the 35`h Avenue Drainage Ditch on the west side, a partially reclaimed
mining excavation on the western half of the south side, and by active gravel mining operation
areas (stockpiles and dewatering ditch) alon~ the eastern half of the south side and along the east
side operated by Lafarge. To the west of 35` Avenue is another active Lafarge operation.
Previous mining extended to a depth of approximately 25 to 30 feet. The pits were dewatered
during mining. Mining operations did not remove all of the resources, which extends to a
maximum depth of approximately 60 feet. This application proposes to line this site with a
slurry wall and remove the majority of the remaining sand and gravel to allow for greater water
storage capacity.
Sand and gravel will be the primary product produced from the 25'h Avenue site. The principal
intended use for the sand and gravel is for construction aggregates. Permitted mining operations
are located to the east and west of the proposed site. The dominant non-mining land use
surrounding the property is agriculture and industrial.
Borehole drilling and testing has verified that the 25`h Avenue site still contains a significant
commercial deposit of sand and gravel. The depth of the topsoil and overburden averaged
approximately 3.0 feet over the entire site. As this site was previously mined, there is very little
overburden material on site. The majority of material used to reclaim the exterior mining slopes
was pushed up from the bottom of the pits and is a mix of ciay, sand and small aggregates. The
total depth of the aggregate material averages approximately 60 feet, but due to previous mining,
there is approximately a 30 to 35 foot depth of remaining resource.
The permit boundary will encompass approximately 89.16 acres with approximately 46 acres
being mined in the center of the site. The remaining area will consist of setbacks and access
road.
ISM' Avenue Sipe
DMG I /7 Permit
Page 4
