WRAL & Sl10I; 1 , INC.
1227 - 8th Avenue
Greeley, Colorado 80631
Telephone (303) 356-3101
• Engineering, Surveying, Planning & Land Development `^
September 10, 1979
PROJECT NO. 79007
Mr. Ronald P. Desilet
Regional Habitat Biologist
Division of Wildlife
Northeast Regional Office
P.O. Box 2287
Fort. Collins, Colorado 80522
RE : VELMA FRANK GRAVEL MINING PROPOSAL
Dear, Mr. Desilet:
We have reviewed your letter requesting additional information and can provide
the following:
At this point, the only investigation and planning that has been undertaken is
on the initial 9.9 Acres. This area has been tested for gravel and is somewhat
• removed from the improvements and the existing river channel . A contract has
been prepared with an operator for the excavation of the gravel .
Approximately 180 Acres (along the river channel ) of the 290 total Acres , more
or less , owned by Mrs. Frank may have mineable gravel deposits. If a proposal
can be put together, the owner will probably commence a total master plan for
the entire project. At such time, a full impact statement and reclamation plan
will be prepared for review by interested parties and approving agencies. We
understand your interest in the long term possibilities, but at this time there
are no definite plans.
The operation will be contained within the 9.9 Acres and it is estimated that
approximately 56,000 cubic yards of overburden and 169,300 cubic yards{320,000
Tons) of sand and gravel will be produced. A pond with a surface area of about
5. 5 Acres and a depth of 13 to 17 feet will remain after the mining is complete.
It is anticipated that the life of this project will be from 4 to 5 years.
Reclamation plans will include shaping of the side slopes as shown on the plans,
and respreading the top soil above the high water line and reseeding with a mix-
ture cf native grasses as recommended by the Soils Conservation Service. (See
attached) . The reclamation phase will begin a, -oon as practical in conjunction
with the mining operation.
F4
