In
'short, water remains the critical item for cottonwood
survival.
Item 5: As previously discussed, I have reservations about
olacing groups of trees in the "new" channel.
Item 6: Cessation of mining is always the last option, but
perhaps it would be better to explore all others during the
planning process rather than during mining.
Section H - Conclusion:
I think the monitoring program presented could be
substantially improved upon. I recommend that additional
information be collected. A field trip might be a good
place to start.
Please call if I can be of further assistance.
:sincerely,
~~~j~;
Gary Finstad
District Conservationist
copies: West Arapahoe Soil Conservation District Board
Mike Scott, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service
Dave Cooper, Colorado School of Mines
Glen Crouch, Forest & Range Experiment Station
Brad Miller, EPA Region VIII
