' None of these wells are expected to feel any detrimental affects
from th• mining operation. Because wet mining techniques will be
used there will be no drawdown of the aquifer. This is
confirmed in th• South Platte River Phase A Master Plan prepared
' for the Urban Drainage and Flood Control District which refers to
a previous study performed by Dr. M. W. Bittinper on the effects
of lakes on an alluvial aquifer.
' Surface Water and Drainage
' The proposed mining site lies primarily within the floodplain of
the South Platt• River. Historically all local drainage on the
property runs directly to the river or is intercepted by
irrigation ditches •nd returns to th^ river downstream of the
t mining site. Other than the creation of the lakes there will be
no eipnifieant alteration oT the historic drainage patterns.
These lakes will serve as detention ponds during mayor storms and
will actually be beneficial for drainage patterns.
The McCann Ditch is located along the eastern boundary of the
' mining site. The mining plan will relocate this ditch in certain
areas and construct berms along existing portions of the ditch.
The mining plan has been designed such that there will be no
impacts felt by any water users on this ditch. 6everal meetings
t have been heltl with the McCann Ditch Board to discuss the
proposed mining plan. A draft agreement allowing the proposed
relocation and berming is 1n the process of being approved. A
' copy of the final agreement will be supplied to the MLRD prior to
the commencement of mining.
There are no other known irrigation ditches or surface water
' rights that will be impacted by this mining operation. The
closest ditch headgate on the South Platte River belongs to the
Brighton Ditch. This diversion structure is located on the
' opposite side of the river from the proposed location of the
mining lakes. The minimum proposed setback of 100 feet from the
river is adequate to protect the interests of this ditch.
' Water Riohts for Aunmentation
The Ready Mixed Concrete Company has obtained several existing
' wells to be used for replacement of water consumptively used in
the mining operation. These walla are permitted under Colorado
Law for use in agricultural irrigation, Table 1 lists pertinent
1 data for the five walls.

1
~_Q
