Ms. Kibbie Ward
U.S. West Communications
Steamboat Springs Field Office
P.O. Box 773685
Steamboat Springs, CO 80477-3685

17 January 1997
Re: Request for Written Approval on the Construction of a Proposed Gravel Pit
Mine Access Road.
•
•
Dear Ms. Ward:
Mr. Frank Camilletti has obtained permits from both Routt County and the Colorado
Division of Minerals and Geology to operate a gravel pit approximately one quarter mile
southeast of the town of Milner. This location is shown on the enclosed figure entitled
"Figure 1, Camilletti-Milner Gravel Pit Site Location Map." A detailed plan showing the
location of the proposed gravel pit and access roads is shown on the enclosed map
entitled "Proposed Reclamation Plan." There is a fiber optic cable buried in the barrow
ditch along the east side of Routt County Road # 174 at this location. Access to the
proposed gravel pit must cross this buried telephone line. The applicant has proposed
filling the barrow ditch with approximately 4 to 6 feet of material at this site to build his
access road. NO excavation in the vicinity of telephone line will occur. The closest
excavation to the buried telephone line will be approximately 60 feet to the east of the
telephone site at an elevation approximately 15 feet higher where a "Proposed Sediment
Basin", required by the Colorado Department of Health to control runoff waters from the
site must be built. The closest excavation of gravel from the buried telephone line is
approximately 236 feet to the east on a hill approximately 30 feet higher in elevation.
The Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology approved the mining permit with the
stipulation that "there shall be no disturbance within 200 feet of the gas line or telephone
fiber optic cable without an engineering evaluation of "no damage" or an agreement with
the owners of these structures to mine closer." The purpose of this letter is to formally
request written confirmation from U.S. West Communications to the effect that the
-placement of approximately.4 to.6 feet.of fill on top of their buried fiber optic telephone
line will not damage this structure. A similar request has been made to Public Service
Company of Colorado, owner of the buried high pressure gas line in the barrow ditch and
they have submitted a letter to the applicant giving their approval for this construction. A
similar concurrent is requested from U.S. West,Communications.
If you have any additional questions
at (970) 638-446 . , ~
CT' t
~ ~(~
~~ ~~
~~ ~ ~ ~ /~~
'~, as
request, please do not hesitate to call me
Sincerely,
,i
llf.'yA/EST'
COMMUNICATIO
NS
Klbbla A.
