At present, no construction activities have occurred at the proposed site except
for the improvement of an existing road for access to the work area. Anew
section of haul road will be constructed along the toe of the fill and is shown on
Figure 2.2-6.
The topography of the proposed disposal site varies from essentially level near
the toe of the fill to slopes of 1.5H:1 V or steeper along the natural slope of the
hillside. The surficial soils at the site are of Rivra Loam Variant and Torriorthent
series. Available topsoil ranges from 12 inches in the area of the proposed road
relocation to 0 inches in the higher elevations of the disposal site, see Figure 4.7-
1.Topsoil availability is discussed in Section 4.7. It will be assumed an average
of 6 inches of topsoil is available for salvage.
Diversion Channels
Diversion and collection ditches are shown on Figure 2.2-6. Sections are
presented on Figure 2.2-7. Calculations and assumptions are provided in
Appendix M(vii). The diversion and collection ditches around the waste disposal
• area (segments A, B, C, D, E, F & I) are designed to handle the 100-year event.
The first two ditches to be constructed will be the upper diversion ditch and the
ditch along the toe of the pile. The upper diversion ditch will be constructed as
high above the valley floor as possible, at its permanent location if possible. As
soon as the refuse pile takes shape, the side (east and west) ditches will be
constructed. The diversion and collection ditches will be constructed according
to the design plans, with rip-rap if specified, even though they may need to be
relocated in the future.
Initially, the run-off from the upland area will be directed to the sediment pond.
The final site drainage will divert run-off from the upland areas around the pile in
channels designed to handle the 100-year event.
•
M" 2.2-11 9/02
