Box 591 <br />Somerset, Colorado 81434 <br />Dear Mr. Bazbe: <br />Enclosed is the report for the acute biomonitoring tests performed for Mountain Coal Company <br />on the West Elk Mine dischazge site. There was significant toxicity seen during the Daphnia <br />magna test. The sample fails WET (Whole Effluent Toxicity) requirements for this species. <br />In the Fathead minnow test there was no significant toxicity detected at any effluent <br />concentration. The sample passes WET requirements for this species. <br />A series of tests were performed in conjunction with the original effluent as part of the permit <br />requirements to confirm the effects of TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) against other possible <br />contaminants.
