First of all, the reference area locations were <br />evaluated for their photographic signature on both color infrared <br />(scale 1:34,000) and black and white (scale 1:15,840) vertical aerial <br />photographs using standard photo interpretation techniques. <br />Stereoscopic coverage of the proposed permit area provided information <br />on elope and aspect. A field evaluation vas made of undisturbed sites <br />identified on the aerial photographs and reference area boundaries <br />were established. With regard Co soil, elope, aspect, life forme, <br />physiognomy and structure, reference area conditions are comparable to <br />conditions on undisturbed premine areas and conditions eaiating on <br />undisturbed regions within the proposed permit area. Reference area <br />locatiooa are shown on Nap 7, Fremining pegetation. <br />• Reference areas are approzimately 3 acres in size. A <br />quantitative description of the plant communities occupying the <br />reference areas is given under Bule 2.04.10 and in Table 12, Native <br />Pastureland pegetation Type, Table 13, Alkali Sagebrush pegetation <br />Type, Table 14, Meadow Hay pegetation Type and Table 15, Brame Hay <br />pegetation Type. Beference areas will remain unfenced and will be <br />managed in accordance with the approved poatmining land use. During <br />the last two years of the liability period, reference areas will <br />receive the same management as revegetated areas. <br />In accordance with Bule 4.15.8 and 4.15.9, revegetation will be <br />deemed successful when herbaceous cover and productivity on the <br />• <br />2.05 - 90 <br />
