Gravel Pit No. 2
Dear Mr. Green:
The Division is approving your permit with the following
stipulations:
(i) Ground water cannot be exposed until either a well permit
is obtained from the State Engineer's Office and proof of
such permit is provided to the Division or bond for
backfilling portions of the pit that have exposed ground
water is posted and approved by the Division.
(2) There will be no more than 3.5 acres of disturbance at
any one time, of which 2.5 acres is mining and 1 acre is
stockpiles and haul road. Alternatively, the operator
can clearly state in writing (by way of a revision to the
permit) the maximum acreage that will be disturbed at any
one time, and the reclamation bond will be adjusted
accordingly.
(3) Grading of the pit to the finished slopes will be
accomplished as mining progresses. This includes both
wet and dry portions of the pit.
The Division has calculated the bond for this operation to be
$4,800. This amount is based upon a scenario where 2.5 acres of
topsoil and overburden have been removed from the east end of the
permitted area and stockpiled on the western end, but no ground
water has yet been exposed.
Reclamation tasks include the following: Mobilization/demobili-
zation of reclamation equipment; grading of overburden stockpile
from angle of repose to 3:1; replacement of topsoil on 2.5 acres;
ripping of compacted area (about one acre); and revegetation of 3.5
acres (including fertilizing of overburden area (about one acre)).
