Economic Setting - The three largest industries in Jackson County are <br />ranching, mood production/manufacturing, and mining. Of these, coal mining <br />provided approximately 87, of the employment. This 8X may not reflect <br />totally those involved in the transport of coal. The total labor force <br />of Jackson County was 655 in 1977. <br />The other business sectors of Jackson County are relatively small, <br />due to the remoteness of the area, severe winter weather conditions, and <br />small population base. Retail and wholesale trade is limited to several <br />retail stores in ldalden that provide soft wares, groceries, and gasoline. <br />tfost industrial equipment and supplies are purchased in Laramie, Fort <br />Collins, or Denver. <br />The existing Sigma *fine presently employs 17 full time workers with <br />a total salary cost of $370,000 per year.
