•
The Colorado Division of l•!ildlife estimates that some 25 antelope
utilize the proposed lease area from early summer until adverse pointer
i:eather forces them to winter ranges northwest of the proposed lease
area. This group of antelope is a segment of a herd unit estimated at
100-150 in nm-nber and inhabit the area bounded by Cameron Pass on
the south, Highiaays 125 and 14 on the west, the foot of the Ptedicine
Bow ?fountains on the east and the h'yoming State line on the north.
The Colorado Division of l:ildlife has designated this area as Antelope
Unit A8. Antelope does and faions were observed within the proposed
lease area this past sum~Ter. The succulant grasses and fortis available
in Bush Draw in spring and early ,summer provide highly nutritious
forage and may attract lactating does to the area. The antelope depend
upon the sagebrush and associated vegetation for food and cover. The
vegetation portion of this report discusses in detail the vegetation com-
plex associated with the proposed lease area.
Pfule deer migrate adjacent to the proposed lease area enroute to
lower elevation al winter ranges between Sdalden and Cowdrey. Some deer
winter on the south-facing ridges and slopes west of the lease area.
Elk are not known to use the proposed lease area, but have been
•
observed north in the N.cCallum oil field in past winters.- >.
-~~Precise small mammal and songbird data are lacking for the proposed -
lease area. Those species listed in the North Park URA associated
with the sagebrush ecosystem can be expected to inhabit the lease area.
The species of songbird and small mammals listed above are known to
inhabit the proposed lease site and adjacent, similar habitat; however,
biological factors such as population nt~'nbers, distribution, habitat
require ants, etc., for these species are u_~l:no~.r at this time.

21
