PURPOSE OF AMENDMENT
In a leaer dated February 1, /995, the permittee requested several chnngec to their permit.
• The permittee requested some form of reliejfrom WET testing for crriorlanltnia sp, jot outfnll 011. The
Divirion evaluated the request and offered five options for resolution. The pernurree performed further
evaluation and determined that groundwater flow into the mine elevated [eveic of alknliniry~, causing TDS level..
to elevate also. To deal with thrs, they selected the Division's option whereby they would modem their WET
testing protocol to remove only TDS prior to testing. This has been accony~lished by lowering the test water
alkaliniry~ level through titration of the sample with su~ric acid. Page /jgjthc permit will be mrxliFed to
allow for this test procedure nwd~cation.
• They requested that the monitoring frequencies for all parameters escept WET jar outjall 011 be relaxed to
monthly. this is not appropriate due to the source (mine waterJ, which should be monitored on a[ lead a
weekly basis far proper operation to detect any potential changes in quality. However, ft is appropriate to
reduce the frequenn~ for total suspended solids oral total iron to nwnthly. The justification for this reduction
is thn[ the qualin~ has remained well below the ejJluent limitations.
