6.0 PROJECT CONSTRAINTS
This project is unique in that only limited options are available to the
design engineers for moving the haul road alignment. In view of this, the
engineering geologic investigation focused on a field review of known problem
areas, and the identification of previously unrecognized problems. Generally
the work was done without regard to moving the alignment, which might have
proved to be more geologically desirable. The fact that this will be a private
road (rather- than a public road) for which the owner probably accepts a greater
level of risk of failure and higher maintenance cost has been considered in our
analysis. Within these constraints we have exercised our professional care,
skill, and diligence to provide data which would be of value to the design
engineers.
Fortunately similar constraints were not in effect for the location of the
sedimentation pond. Although it would have been preferable to site the pond
closer to the mine mouth, it was possible to consider several sites and choose
the best one.

19
