were located on the Peabody Coal Company Operations Plan (Exhibit 12-2). The
areas are shown on Drawing No. 9111-2 in this report. Comments on each of
these areas is by designation on that drawing.
Stockpile QQ. This stockpile is now located in area recommended on the
north side of the haul road alignment at about Sta. 37+00 to Sta. 40+00 between
the 6875' and 6925' contours. The ground on this slope appears to be stable.
Stockpile PP. This stockpile area is on relatively stable ground
described in the field and confirmed on the photos last fall as "near bedrock,
low potential for failure." This stockpile is essentially within the Williams
Fork Formation.
Stockpile SS. This stockpile is now in a recommended location where
stabilized ground (Qsg) is mapped. In making the recommendation it was noted
that the scrub vegetation surrounding its limits should not be disturbed any
more than absolutely necessary.
• Stockpiles TOB-3 and II. The recommendation was accepted that these
stockpiles be maintained in their previous locations. Both of these stockpile
areas are located within moderately to relatively densely wooded ground. TOB-3
is on a topographic slope of 12"6 (70) and should not be adversely affected by
natural conditions in its planned location. Stockpile II is on a slope of 16Yo
(90) situated primarily on a topographic nose. This location is on a marginal
surface grade, but the topography presents an offsetting advantage.
5.4 Topographic Slope and Geological Dip Relationships with Regard to Ground
Stability
The area mapped for this project is relatively small and provides a
limited number of examples of unstable ground, or• ground that appears to have
been unstable in the past. Enough evidence has been obtained to draw some
. tentative conclusions as to the relationship between percent of topographic
l1
