The alignment, from approximately Sta. 73+00 to its end at Sta. 80+46.01,
• is in a cut that deepens southeastward toward what will be the throat of the
pit. The bearing of the alignment in this area is N55-67W and the strike of the
lower section of the Williams Fork Formation is approximately 4-5. The dip of
the rocks is about nine degrees to loo west. The angular intersection of the
strike and dip of the rocks and the bearing of the alignment is reasonable
assurance that there should be little or no adverse movement of rock into the
cut. Consideration should be given to establishing safety berms in the road
cuts to protect against stray rocks falling into the roadway.
Design and Maintenance. The haul road alignment as it is will be subject
to some settling, particularly in the reach between Sta. 63+85 and Sta. 72+00.
This probably will result in a greater amount of maintenance for this reach
than in other reaches. Since the road will be under daily observation, and
since it will be a private thoroughfare, increased post-construction
. maintenance should be more acceptable than relocation of the alignment.
5.2 Proposed Sedimentation Pond
Several possible sites were reviewed for the location of a sedimentation
pond. Preferably the site should be close to the mine; however, the close-in
choices were either in potentially unstable (Qpug) and unstable ground (Qug).
Other sites in more stable materials were not acceptable because of design
criteria.
The final site selected is shown on Drawing Nos. 9111-4 and 9111-5.
Figure 1 is a location map of drill holes in the pond area and Figure 2 is a
cross section showing the geology as determined by drill-hole data, and
geological inference.
The right abutment of the embankment is at about Sta. 38+90, right, and
the pond area will extend upstream in 005 Gulch to approximately Sta. 42+30,
]5
