5.0 ENGINEERING GEOLOGY
• 5.1 Proposed Haul Road G
The following discussion of Haul Road G, and Sedimentation Pond 005 is
related to the stationing of the proposed haul road. The discussion of the
haul road is limited pr•imar•ily to that section between Sta. 40+00 and the end
of the alignment.
Sta. 0+00 to Sta. 40+00 (Drawing Nos. 9111-3 and 9111-4). This reach of
the alignment was not given a high priority in this investigation since the
geology was assumed to be uncomplicated. This reach had not been staked in the
field at the time of the October 1991 field work. The alignment from Sta. 0+00
to about Sta. 26+00 is on an alluvial surface developed in the flood plain of
the main drainage. Along this reach the drainage is incised about 10' to 30'
with deeper incisement upstream where the alluvial fan (Qf) is cut. Between
Sta. 26+00, and Stas. 33+00 to 35+00 there is a potential rockfall hazard
• caused by blocks of sandstone moving downward from the cliff to the north. This
hazard does not appear to be severe since there appears to be no evidence of
recent rockfall.
Sta. 40+00 to Sta. 51+50 (Drawing Nos. 9111-4 and 9111-5). This reach of
the alignment is largely in shallow cut and deeper fill until about Sta. 51+50.
A small nose of sandstone will be cut between Sta. 44+00 and Sta. 44+50. The
cut from about Sta. 46+50 to Sta. 51+50 will be in shale and sandstone with the
latter predominating. The. bearing of the alignment with respect to regional
strike and dip of the rocks is favorable in this reach.
Sta. 51+50 to Sta. 53+70 (Draw in No. 9111-5). This reach of the
alignment is in questionable stabilized ground (Qsg). Drillhole -P (DH-P) at
Sta. 52+63 encountered one foot of topsoil and 12 feet of clay before
. penetrating seven feet of claystone bedrock. DH-Q at Sta. 53+95, seven feet
left, encountered five feet of clay before penetrating 15 feet of sandstone
13
