' The required length of stow bales should be alculated assuming a flow depth of one foot to
allow freeboard and a fattor of safety on permittivity. Designs azsume regular inspections and
maintenance. Stnw bales will be placed at appropriate locations to intercept all runoff from the
disturbance area. The straw bales will be placed tightly against each other and keyed into the
ground.
To verify the effectiveness of the straw bales, EFCI will sample runoff from the site. Given,
however, that the mine site is inactive, and sampling must occur during or immediately ~
following a storm event, sampling will be limited by practial constrains and may not occur
immediately.
If sampling indicates that the sediment control systems are not effectively treating the runoff, ~
EFCI will revise and upgrade the drainage control system.
3.0 SAE REQUEST
Given the limited size of the reclaimed disturbance area, the previously discussed sediment
control measures which will effectively prevent significant adverse downstream water quality
impacts, and the lack of any underground mine water discharge in the area, EFCI respectively
requests DMG approval of a small area exemption for this area.
•

c:t,rvc,~o~~tntDOc
