<br /> <br />EPA REGION VIII -NPDES INSPECTION REPORT <br />BATTLE MOIINTAIN GOLD COMPANY <br />SAN LIIIS MINE <br />DATE: July 20, 1992 <br />PERSONNEL PRESENT: Dana Allen, EPA, NPDES, Permits <br />Melanie Pallman, EPA, NPDES, Enforcement <br />Gary Dodson, Battle Mountain Gold <br />Alana Scott, Battle Mountain Gold <br />Anne Baldridge, Consultant for Battle <br />Mountain Gold <br />FINDINGS- <br />Battle Mountain does not have a NPDES permit. At the time <br />of the inspection, no point source discharges of mine <br />drainage or mill wastewater were noted, Point source <br />discharges were present along the haul roads and the county <br />road. At the current time, these types of discharges will <br />be covered under the State of Colorado Storm Water Program. <br />CORRECTIVE ACTION~ <br />None at this•time. Battle Mountain should contact the <br />Colorado Department of Health for coverage under the genera <br />permit for "Storm water Discharges Associated with Mineral <br />Mining Activities" when it is issued in late 1992 or early <br />1993. <br />INSPECTION: <br />Representatives from Battle Mountain Gold ("BMG") met with <br />EPA at the mine offices on July 20, 1992. At this meeting, <br />the EPA inspectors presented their credentials and explained <br />that the purpose of the inspection was to determine if any <br />NPDES requirements applied and to evaluate the coverage of <br />the storm water NPDES program at the site. The inspectors. <br />also explained the basis of the traditional NPDES <br />regulations including effluent guidelines. The San Luis <br />Mine has also applied for a storm water permit under the AMC <br />group application. After the meeting, a site inspection was <br />~ conducted. No samples were taken. <br />2 <br />When asked if their mine had any mine drainage that would be <br />subject to NPDES effluent guidelines, BMG replied that two <br />wells dewater the west mine pit. The wells were installed <br />$r~"' <br />~ ~~? <br />
