~.
has potential to produce a bunchgrasa understory, although present
vegetation and conditions indicate past overgrazing. Indian rice-
gress, mutton grass, needle and thread, Scribner needlegrass and
Western wheatgrass are some of the grasses that should typically
be found in the understory. Overgrazing has largely caused these
grasses to disappear and be replaced by blue grams and three awn
grass.
RECLAMATION RECOMMENDATIO11Ss
We do not recommend that revegetation efforts be made on the site
because of the poor soil and flood hazard. Many tons of 9oi1 would
have to be hauled in from an outside source in order to provide
sufficient depth and moisture holding capacity for plants to survive.
If revegetation of the site was successful after hauling in topsoil,
then the site would always be in danger of being destroyed by flooding.
Regrading the site to conform to the surrounding landscape and in
such manner as to trap and collect subsequent flood sediment ie s
more reasonable and economically feasible alternative to revegetation.
Chances for revegetating the site are very poor at best.
