Assessmenf of I-lining Impact on Wildlife
Because of the pit's location next to Highway 24 and long-term operation, there
should be no significant negative impacts on wildlife from its continued operation.
Prior to the opening of the pit and placement of Highway 24, this south exposure
area provided winter range for mule deer.
&. Proposed Miticalion Piea5ure5, Includino Reclaration for 1':ildlife `:abitat .
Reclamation of this site will be very difficult because the final slope will be
a south exposure and the shortage of topsoil. Reseeding success on the adjacent
mined area has been very poor. Reclamation according to S.C.S. recommendations
will be acceptable. The operator may want to try including some seed for mountain
mahogany or other dry site shrub to improve chances of successful revegetation.
zy: jnnk Vp bingeT I i i le : Wildlife R' l g s+
..a:c: 12/15/80 ——
cc: Environmental Resources Section File
Jim Dennis, District Wildlife Manager
