Broadcast seeding is not recommended unless there are
small areas inaccessible to drills. In small areas, broadcast seeding may be
accomplished by hand or with manual operated seeders. The seed should be
covered 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep by raking or harrowing and the broadcast seeding
rate must be doubled.
~ Seeding Dates: Fall seeding is recommended, after October 15th and prior to
April 15th. This will keep the seed from germinating before adequate moisture
and warm temperatures are available. Mulching may be required to protect slopes
from erosion and protect seedlings during establishment. For the site conditions,
seeding should be accomplished first and then mulching material applied second,
please refer to Mulching Standards and Specifications.
