C RESPONS[:
The Wolf Creek linear Swale, as with other areas on the mine site (and
as occurs in natural conditions), may develop unforseen rills and
gullies. Iri the course of monitoring and reporting of excessive rills
and gullies as described on revised Pages 13-9a through 13-9c, Peabody
will initiate the appropriate action to alleviate the problem. Based on
field trials, it is anticipated that rock check dams in the area
exhibiting armouring or similar control types will be the primary and
most efier_tive means of controlling excessive gullies. This method will
slow the rate of runoff while retaining eroded materials. As these
check clams successfully control the erosion, topsoilirtg and reseeding
may aeain be performed to further stabilize the area. This type of
approach can be applied to other reclaimed areas as necessary.
The rill and gully plan in Tab 13, Page 9b is revised to reflect the
above discussion.
C COh~h1EfJ I
D. Auger Areas B & D
Table 12-5 of tfte revised permit renewal application indicates that
reclamation of the 33.6-acre Auger B area will not be completed
until 1987. As such, the estimated cost of completing the
reclainatiori plan for this area needs to be added into the
reclamation cost estimate. Page 12-12 of the revised application
indicates that Auger Area D is "currently in the final stages of
reclamation". Unless this area will be completely reclaimed prior
to the date of permit renewal (November 24, 1986), the estimated
cost for completing the reclamation plan for this area needs to be
added into the reclamation cost estimate.
PESPOPISE:
Auger Area D will be reclaimed by November 24, 19£6.
•
•
Auger Area B was not included in the bonding calculations. Currently,
the required reclamation grading is approximately five acres. The •
reinainclr.r of the disturbance requires topsoil and revegetation. As
32
