Canada thistle <br />was occasionally found to be gracing near wet areas (drainages, ponds) <br />while field peru~ycress and quackgrass were encountered occasionally on <br />other disturbed sites. <br />SELENIIF~7 II4DICATOR PIANPS <br />Only one primary selenium obligate or indicator plant (i.e., requires <br />selenium for proper growth and is found only where there is selenium in <br />the soil) was encountered during vegetation investigations at Seneca II <br />Mine <br />1. Aster xylorrhiza - oomnon woodyaster <br />Secondary selenium absorbers are not limited to soils containing selenium <br />but nay accumzlate selenium when gro,~cing in seleniferous soils, ha:~ver, <br />all other conditions equal, they grow just as well on soils oontairing <br />no selenium. Secondary selenium absort~ss encountered during vegeation <br />studies at Seneca II were: <br />1. Aster spp. - aster <br />2. Castilleja spp. - paintbrush <br />3.
