tered, they will be covered with topsoil from the stockpiles to the same depths outlined in the recla-
mation plan and no more mining will occur in this area.
United commits to clearly marking the permit boundary at all corners.
2. Mine Facilities
There will be no permanent mine facilities on site. There will be no office of any kind, no lighting,
no fuel storage area, no cement plants, no asphalt plants, no truck scale or power poles , no crushing
and screening equipment or any other type of equipment. The raw gravel from this site will be
loaded into trucks from a front end loader and the gravel will be hauled over the temporary bridge
across the river, where the material will be processed at the River Bottom Pit facilities. All trucks
leaving the site will use the existing entrance on Highway 133.
3. Bride Facility and River Crossing
The raw mined material must be brought from the permit area south of the river to the River Bottom
Pit north of the river. In order to minimize problems with sedimentation of the river, fish habitat,
recreational use of the river and other potential problems, a portable bridge has been selected over
the other options of large culverts or a low water crossing. This option is more expensive for United
but is much better for all items of concern.
The portable bridge will consist of two 89 feet wide flat railcars joined together and each supported
by two pre-cast concrete supports. The supports will be 8' wide x 3' x 11' high pre-cast concrete for
each railcar deck. These supports will be buried a minimum of 1 foot into the existing bed of the
river channel. A minimum of 6.0 height will be maintained for normal year peak flows from the
water level to the lowest point on the bridge. A diagram of this installation is shown on Map E-4.
The bridge will only be in use during low water conditions on the river, from July 1 to March 30 of
each year. Ramps of approximately 12% grade will be made on both river embankments for the
truck routes. A gravel embankment will also be built up on the north side of the bridge as shown on
Map E-4 so that the trucks have any easy path to follow. This gravel berm will be removed over a
40 feet width at the end of each mining season in preparation for the subsequent year's peak flows.
This allows two full paths for river water in peak flow: within the 75 feet wide span and in a 40 feet
wide opening in the gravel berm. During a very large peak flow, portions of the gravel berm may
North Fork Pit Mazch 04 17
