A1212
Steven 1. v,'iue, P.E.
Division Engineer
Re: Letter of E'ebr~lary 18, 199A
Dear Mr. Worthley;
I am responding to your letter to 1r~;, concerning the Agile Stone project near
Parkdale and your concern that pots-~~tial blasting of stone by Agile Stone may
cause turbidity problems in your w~-I 1.
Depending on the magnitude of the blasting, and it's proximity to your well,
it may be possible that the blasti~~r~.could cause some temporary discoloration
in the your well water. However, 1 do not believe that this situation would
exist very ]ong or have any adverse health effects. Turbidity is also fairly
easy to filter out should any occur.
Impacts on well production is very ~!ifficult to predict. One of the best
ways to determine any changes in w:~~er quality or well production is to have
a monitoring program. Ideally, yntl should have as much data as possible
prior to any mining activity. IY nn information has been gathered on water
quality and well production yet (w~ler levels, pumping rates, water quality,
etc.) you should begin gathering this information as soon a§ possible. This
information ideally needs to be ohl~i.ned for as many of the existing wells in
the area as possible. Testing we]]:: before, during, and after blasting is
the best way to be able to detect r:l~anges to the groundwater and to prove
damages legally.
As a referral agency for the Divisir~n of Minerals and Geology T am however
forlaarding your letter to them anc] to our main office in Denver.
Sincerely,
•_ ~
Steven J.
