'Phe topography is mostly <br />rolling hills. The predominant vegetation consists of Blue <br />Grama and Buffalo Grass. <br />Before mining of the area is abandoned, the following <br />procedure should he followed to restore a native range <br />conditions. Side slopes should be graded to no more than <br />3:1 slopes. The stockpiled topsoil should he spread evenly <br />to a depth of 12 inches over the overburden so as to provide <br />a firm seedberl. 'Phis site may not produce adequate top soil <br />to meet this recommendation and as a result additional top <br />soil may need to be brnught. in for adequate revegetation t,o <br />occur. 'Phe d.ist.urbed area should be fertilized at a rate of <br />nn less that 40 pOUndS of nitrogen lNl and 40 pounds of <br />phosphate (P2051 per acre. Animal manures ar simi.lar <br />organic material may be used to supply all or part of the <br />specific nutrients. A cereal grain mulch will be applied <br />after drilling. 'Phe recommended rate of application is 1000 <br />lbs/ac of air dry material spread even 1. ,y over the area and <br />r_rimped in to prevent washing. At least 50% of the mulch by <br />weight shall be 10 inches or more in length. The straw <br />shall he free from noxious weeds.
