The proposed gravel pit will be located in the NE4 1-12-43.
The acreage for the proposed pit lies on a mixed gravel
break/loam}• slopes range sight and has a annual
precipitation 15-18 inches. 'Phe topography is mostly
rolling hills. The predominant vegetation consists of Blue
Grama and Buffalo Grass.
Before mining of the area is abandoned, the following
procedure should he followed to restore a native range
conditions. Side slopes should be graded to no more than
3:1 slopes. The stockpiled topsoil should he spread evenly
to a depth of 12 inches over the overburden so as to provide
a firm seedberl. 'Phis site may not produce adequate top soil
to meet this recommendation and as a result additional top
soil may need to be brnught. in for adequate revegetation t,o
occur. 'Phe d.ist.urbed area should be fertilized at a rate of
nn less that 40 pOUndS of nitrogen lNl and 40 pounds of
phosphate (P2051 per acre. Animal manures ar simi.lar
organic material may be used to supply all or part of the
specific nutrients. A cereal grain mulch will be applied
after drilling. 'Phe recommended rate of application is 1000
lbs/ac of air dry material spread even 1. ,y over the area and
r_rimped in to prevent washing. At least 50% of the mulch by
weight shall be 10 inches or more in length. The straw
shall he free from noxious weeds. For recommended SP_ed ll'Ig
