.,
Mr. Peter Wayland Page 2
Kirtright Pit-M86-123
January 19, 2005
Please provide a more detailed explanation on how the Hillsborough Ditch water would be
used to provide augmentation credits. The water should be diverted in priorityat the ditch headgate,
conveyed to the property, then measured and turned back to the Big Thomson River. Please
indicate if a measuring structure exists.
In addition since the 1 share of the Hillsborough Ditch were used to irrigate all the historic
Kirtright Farm lands and since only a portion of those lands are being dried up please provide a
determination of the numbers of shares to be committed to this plan. Please provide evidence that
the total Hillsborough Ditch diversion listed in Table AI.4 only include water that the 7 share is
entitled to and that may be used for augmentation. Diversion claimed as the basis for historic
consumptive use should not include C-BT water owned by others and carried in the ditch
Please provide information that no part of the historic potential consumptive use was
satisfied through subirrigation. If subirrigation is present, please adjust the water budget to account
for crop water use provided by groundwater.
A portion of the replacement water for this pit will come from water leased by Coulson
Excavating Company from the City of Loveland. Coulson Excavating Company is entitled to receive
annually 100 acre-feet of fully consumable water. Since water from this lease is to be used also for
Brownwood Pit (M79-059), SH287-Borrow Pit and Boyd Pit (M2000-122) please indicate how many
acre-feet of the total 100 acre-feet will be dedicated to each of the pits listed above.
Please send the requested information to this office as soon as possible. The review will
continue after receipt of the items requested. Please contact me at this office if you have any
questions concerning this matter.
Sincerely,
~~~~G'~
loans Comaniciu, E.I.T.
Water Resource Engineer
cc: Dave Nettles, Assistant Division Engineer
Fred Renner, Water Commissioner District 4
Division of Minerals and Geology
