It formed in alluvium derived from various <br />sources. Elevation is 6,000 to 6,FSOU feet. The average <br />annual precipitation is. 12 to, 15 ir~ct~es, the average annual <br />air temperature is 42 to 45 degrees F., and the average <br />frost-free period. is. 7F to 95 days. <br />Typically, the surface layer is grayish brown and brown <br />clay loam 1'c' inches thick. The upper 11 inches of the <br />sut~si~il mater•ial is yellowish brown clay. The lower part to <br />a depth of 60 inches or more is light yellowish Grown ar~d <br />pale grown calcareous clay. <br />Included in this unit ar•e soils with a light brownisF~ <br />gray calcareous surface layer, 13attlernent soils, Naplaquclls <br />s~~ils, and soils with a layer of e::trernely gravelly sand at <br />a depth of ir:r to $O inches. <br />Permeability of this BilY~il s~?il is very slow. <br />Available water capacity is high. Effective rooting depth <br />is 60 inches or more for water-tolerant plants but is <br />limited to depths between 36 to b0 inches for plants that <br />are not tolerant of a seasonal high water table... A seasonal <br />high water table fluctuates between depths of 3G and 60 <br />inches in April through June.. Runoff is slow, and the <br />hazard of water erosion is slight.
