Topsoil depths are approximately 4 inches at the proposed site. Thin
topsoil plus additional topsoil or suitable overburden encountered will
be stockpiled. Since the topsoil directly overlies the deposit, there
is no anticipated handling of overburden.
2. Reclaimed slopes will have a maximum gradient of 3H:1V to facilitate
revegetation and reduce soil erosion.
3. Topsoil depths in this area average 4 inches. Since only 4 inches are
available, only that amount will be removed or stockpiled. In any
additional topsoil is encountered, it will be stockpiled as well.
4. This Soil Conservation Service has recommended that seeding be done
between November 1, and April 30, with a disc drill for best results.
The seedbed will be prepared for chiseling the site, and then mulching
with either 2 tons per acre of straw followed by light discing to crimp
the straw, or spreading approximately 20 tons of manure per acre.
Fertilizer will be applied at a very low rate recommended for rangeland
in this area prior to chiseling.
5. The Soil Conservation Services has recommended the following seed
mixture for the area:
Variety Species Pounds/Acre
Vaughn sideoats grams 3.15
Arriba western wheatgrass 3.20
Cimmarron little bluestem 1.40
Blackwell switchgrass .45
Covington blue grams .30
Goshen prairie sandreed .325
Trees and shrubs will not be planted since they do not naturally grow
on this soil type in this area.
7. Straw is readily available in the area and will be crimped into the
soil by light discing. The straw mulch will be applied at 2 tons per
acre. Manure will also be considered as mulch and, if used, will be
applied at 20 tons per acre as per Soil Conservation Service
recommendations.
8. There will be no ponds, streams or buildings remaining after
reclamation. The mining access road will remain for ranching purposes.
9. Since no plant facilities are proposed and there will be no waste rock
