Gulnaze soils are on mountain slopes, hills, and ridges. Slopes range from S to SO percent. <br />Mean annual temperature is about 44 degrees F., and the mean annual precipitation is about 19 inches. <br />TAXONOMIC CLASS: Loamy, mixed, superactive, frigid Lithic Haplustalfs <br />TYPICAL PEDON: Gulnaze loam -open stand of ponderosa pine. (Colors are for dry soil unless <br />otherwise stated.) <br />Oi--O inches to 2; partially decomposed pine needles. <br />E--2 to S inches; grayish brown (] OYR S/2) loam, very dark grayish brown (lOYR 3/2) moist; weak fine <br />granulaz structure; very friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; S percent cobbles, 2 percent stones; neutral <br />(pH 6.8); abrupt smooth boundary. (2 to 4 inches thick) <br />Btl-S to 13 inches; brown (7.SYR S/4) gravelly clay loam, dark brown (7.SYR 4/4) moist; moderate <br />medium subangulaz blocky structure parting to moderate fine subangulaz blocky; hazd, firm, sticky and <br />plastic; 1 S percent pebbles; neutral (pH 7.0); clear smooth boundary. <br />(6 to 9 inches thick) <br />Bt2--13 to 18 inches; strong brown (7.SYR S/6) gravelly sandy clay loam, strong brown (7.SYR 4/6) <br />moist; moderate medium subangular blocky structure; hazd, firm, sticky and plastic; 20 percent pebbles; <br />moderately.acid (pH S.6); abrupt wavy boundary. (2 to 6 inches thick) <br />Cr--18 to 20 inches; decomposed sandstone.
