The area was covered <br />~. in a series of transects approximately 15 to 20 meters apart. <br />RESULTS OF SURVEY <br />No previously recorded sites or sites currently listed in the National <br />Register of Historic Places are within the project area. <br />One historical site and one isolated artifact were encountered during <br />the survey of the proposed project area. . <br />SITE DESCRIPTION <br />Site 5LP450 consists of the remains of a stacked sandstone slab foundation <br />with two small trash concentrations and a small depression. Cultural <br />materials include glass lined metal jar lids, crockery fragments, blue <br />and white dish fragments, purple and green glass fragments, brich_ <br />fragments, and a leather Shoe sole. <br />Site Size: 14 m. x 17 m. <br />• Evaluation: <br />• The site does not appear to meet criteria of eligibility for inclusion in <br />the National Register of Historic Places. <br />The isolated artifact (5LP499) is a singel non-utilized chert flake with <br />•no evident association with other cultural materials. <br />Evaluation: <br />5LP499 does not meet criterial of eligibility for inclusion in the <br />National Register of Historic Places. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Since mineral extraction activities by National King Coal, Inc. will <br />not affect the surface and since site 5LP450 does not appear to meet <br />criteria.of eligibility for inclusion in the National Register of Historic <br />Places and 5LP499 is a single isolated artifact not seen as indicative <br />of subsurface archaeological materials, no further cultural resource <br />management measures are considered necessary at this time.
