Someone
told him that Jim Lochhead recently participated in a rafting trip on the
Arkansas River with State Parks officials to evaluate a proposed gravel
mining site and that Jim had encouraged local citizens who are opposed to
the project to call-in complaints to the Governor's Citizens Advocate
number.
The only part of this that is true is that Parks officials did conduct a
rafting trip recently and there is a gravel mine proposed. Otherwise,
virtually everything else is misinformation.
We have already received one citizen complaint about the proposed mining
operation that was forwarded to DNR's Citizen Advocate Office from the
Governor's Citizen Advocate Office.
Attached is a summary of the response that Antonette DeLauro, Loretta Pineda
and I developed -- which I've communicated to the reporter.
As most of you know, this is somewhat sensitive -- we've got mining, the
railroad abandonment, GOCO Legacy Project and existing recreational area all
focused in on the same piece of dirt here. Please share this information
with anyone else who may need it. I'll try to keep you all informed if
there are additional developments and ask that you do the same.
Thanks. 1_ V~~
~/ ~ C.~
S ~~~
~~
W ;~
1~~~~ ~~
