:.0 ?SATERIALB AND 82TE CONDI"_'ION$
• '::'
-- ~ 3.1 Mined rock
The mined rock vill be development waste excavated from the deeper
-- - -- ~--- half of the two tunnels. It is estimated that there is 11, 000
cubic yards of material between the two tunnels. This material has
been characterized by SR-3H, a horizontal hole approximately alone
the alignment of tunnel €1 (to the west). The log of this hole is
- presented in Appendix 3.3-2. A summary of the log is:
DEPTH (FT)
-- 0 - 150
150 - 315
- - 315 - 395
395 - 900
900 -1050
1050 -1215
121s -1300
1300 -1310
1310 -1360
1360 -1380
1380 -1401
LITHOLOGY
_ Siltstone/sandstone, calcareous,
Shale and black organic shale
Sandstone, calcareous, occasional
Shale, calcareous
Siltstone, calcareous
Sandstone, calcareous
Siltstone, calcareous
Organic shale, blac?:
Coal
Siltstone and shale
Black shale (TD=1401 ft)
trace pyrite
pyrite blebs
"~ = A5 can be seen, this hole exhibited the following relative
• '.^ abundances of materials:
Sandstone/siltstone 545 ft 39~
- - --- =-- Shale 675 ft 48$
-.. - .. .. Organic shale 130 ft 9$
- '-=... Coal 50 ft 4~
-- ~.= There is only one coal seam identified in the core, and this is the
=-= - - seam to be mined. Accordingly, it is expected that approximately
half of the material that will be produced b}• the postal will be
arenaceous (sandstone and siltstone), and approximately half will
be argillaceous (shale and organic shale).
• _,~
The grainsize analysis of this material has been deterained fros
the existing pads. Two samples we_-e excavated by hand, with :3e
la."cer boulders and rocks removed to facilitate samplinc. The
crainsize analyses are presented in Fiau~e 1. Pit 2 and P_t 3 were
samples taken half way up the pad slope of Porral #1, froW
approximately 12 inches below the pad surface. Both a_-e coarse
material, wi`,.Y. median sizes (of the material sampled and sieved) in
'.he gravel range. The expected hydraulic conductivities of ~~hese
materials can be computed using the Hazen formula to be around 1
cm/sec, which is free draining. It is expected `..hat ~-he material
will not significantly change in nature when the tu.-uieis art
extended.
Adrian Brown Consultants -3-
:155/90C::1
