Lenkey,
Per of:r phone conversation today, this letter serves to notify your
Division of an upset condition at Discharge Point 006. This
discharge point is a sediment pond at a surface coal mine. Due to
thy: inuaually high rainfall that has occurred recently
_:~oximately five inches from September 18 to 23), the trash rack
ac the principle spillway became plugged, forcing water to be
discharged into the emergency spillway. In order to expose the
tra:~h rack to be cleaned, it was necessary to pump water from the
'.d. Once the level in the pond was low enough, a backhoe was
:•~d to clear the trash rack today. Although no lab results are
pack, it is almost certain that the water discharged during this
~, repair exceeds the effluent limit for suspended solids. Lab
results will be submitted with the next DMR. Please feel free to
call me at 970-276-5109 if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
~'0„'~
Dennis Jon s
Hydrologist I
cc: Gary Wendt (PWCC)

Seneca Coal Comparry • P.O.
