CO 80203
ATTENTION: Erica Crosby
Dear Ms. Crosby:
RECEIVED
JUL 22 1999
Division of Minerals & Geology
I have reviewed the "110(2) RECLAMATION PERMIT APPLICATION FORM" submitted to
your office by Avalanche Creek Marble & Alabaster LLC, located on the White River National
Forest, Sopris Ranger District. Particularly, I have reviewed Exhibit D (Reclamation Plan). I
hove the following comments:
EXHIBIT D
Section 6.3.4(I)(c)(iii) - I have had my staff review the seed mixture we originally reo-
ommended, and I wish w make the following changes: Remove Climax Timothy, and substitute.
Mountain hrome for Smooth brome.
Section 6.3.4(I)(c)(v) - I would like to recommend that a "weed free" straw mulch be
used when seeding is done.
Section 6.3.4(1)(c)(vi) - I would like to change the may to required regarding fertilizer. I
fee] this will give the seeds the needed boost to establish quickly. An organic fertilizer with a hit-
ter systemic would be preferred so as to eliminate any caging.
Section 6.3.4(1)(t) - I hereby do not recommend planting trees for final reclamation. Mr.
Congdon had agreed to pl.mt and maintain some trees adjacent to the mine entrance in his origi-
nal proposal. Since the size of the operation has changed, I do not feel this is necessary or desir-
able for final reclamation. Since only gambel oak and other scrubs were present on the original
site, I expect Mr. Congdon to revege[•ate the site with grass and scrub species described in Sec-
tion 6.3.4(I)(c)(iii). The number (25 plants/acre) should be sufficient.
Should you have any further questions regarding this activity, please contact myself at the above
address and phone number, or Gary Osier a[ (970)625-2371.
Sincerely,
`~~~~
KEVIN T.
