EXHIBIT G -Water Information
The project property is located within the St. Vrain Creek Valley, approximately
one-quarter(1/4) mile south of the creek. Topographic relief is minimal, with a
downslope gradient of less than one (1) percent from the southeast to the
northwest property boundaries.
Water Information
The operation is expected to have minimal impact on both surface water and
groundwater resources in the area. Anticipated impacts and proposed mitigation
plans are outlined in the following sections.
Surface Water
The attached map (Exhibit G-1) shows all tributary water courses, wells, springs,
ponds, reservoirs and ditches in the area of the proposed mining operation. The
anticipated impacts from mining are outlined below:
- The wetlands shown on the map will not be affected since mining
activities will not occur within 50 feet of the wetland areas (there is
no excavation or filling planned in the wetlandsl.
Most of the mine permit area north and west of the Last Chance
Ditch is within the 100 year floodplain of the St. Vrain Creek (see
Exhibit C-2). A Weld County Floodplain Development Permit will be
obtained and mining activities will be conducted in accordance with
the protocols required in the permit.
The Last Chance Ditch (Ditch) crosses the southern part of the mine
permit area flowing in a southwest to northeast direction. Ditch
water is currently used on-site by a lessee for crop irrigation. The
Ditch is protected by a setback from mining operations. Two lateral
ditches carry water from the Ditch to the Acord property, located
adjacent to the northeast corner of the mine permit area. Prior to
mine development, the laterals will be relocated under an agreement
with Mr. Acord. Owens Brothers Concrete Company currently owns
1.5 shares of the Last Chance Ditch (which amounts to approximately
500 acre-feet of water.
- Several ponds formed from previous gravel mining operations are
located between 0.1 and 0.5 mile west and northwest of the mine
permit area. No adverse impacts to the ponds as a result of Owens
Brothers mining activities are anticipated.
