Greyslune Develupmenl Cunsultanls, Inc. • <br />June 10, 1986 <br />Page 2. <br />The following paragraphs summarize specific activities and their <br />consumptive water uses to be implemented at the Foidel Creek <br />Mine. Each of these activities is defined in the memorandum for <br />underground mining operations and is based on a 3.5 million tons <br />per year production rate. <br />Mining Consumption <br />This use includes water consumption by mining equipment and <br />machinery, primarily for general mine usage and dust control. <br />Based on actual operating conditions at the mine and projections <br />for maximum production, an estimate of 2 gpm and 11 gpm will he <br />utilized for surface dust suppression and general underground <br />uses, respectively. All of this water will be lost to evapora- <br />tion. Four gpm will be utilized in the bathhouse and operation <br />buildings, the majority of which will be returned to the shallow <br />ground water system via the septic tank and leach field. This 17 • <br />gpm (27 acre-feet per year) will be supplied from the deep well <br />and is not considered a surface depletion in this analysis. <br />Ventilation Consumption <br />This use includes evaporation from the coal seam induced by <br />incoming low humidity air which becomes nearly saturated before <br />it exits the mine. Using the ten square mile area to be mined and <br />a rate of evaporation of 86 acre-feet per year per square mile <br />(as determined for the Belina Mine in Utah), total evaporation <br />would equal 66 feet-acre per year. However, the source of this <br />water will be from the coal seam and overburden aquifer and is <br />not considered a surface depletion in this analysis. <br />Coal Processing Consumption <br />This use includes coal preparation plant use for coal <br />washing, processing and other treatment processes. As currently <br />proposed in the mine plan application, no coal processing will be <br />conducted at the mine. <br /> <br />Revised 10/24/86 <br />
