Box 177 <br />Silverton, Colorado 81433 <br />Re: Routine Inspection of Wastewater Treatment Facilities <br />for the Sunnyside Gold Corp. -Mine Remediation Projects, <br />CDPS Permit No. CO-0044768, Silverton, San Juan County, Colorado. <br />Dear Mr. Perino: <br />Qp C0 <br />R~ <br />ye <br />t <br />a a <br />~'r876 ~ <br />Colorado Depamnent <br />of Public Health <br />and Fasvimntnent <br />The Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment -Water Quality Control Division <br />{"WQCl7'j Durango District Office conducted a routine inspection of the remediation projects <br />currently covered under the wastewater discharge permit for the Sunnyside Gold Corp. -Mine <br />Remediation Projects on May 29, 2002. Enclosed is your copy of that inspection report. <br />During the inspection, the following items were noted and need to be brought to your attention: <br />No deficiencies and no problems were noted during the inspection. <br />2. Reclamation projects which are covered under this wastewater discharge permit and <br />which were inspected inGude: <br />a. Tailings Pond # 4 Drainage Mod cation Project. <br />b. Tailings Pond # 4 Upland Ground Water Diversion. <br />c. Mayflower Faality Upland Hydrologic Control (Drainage Diversion). <br />A. Tailings Pond # 4 Drainage Modification Protect. This project is to control <br />stormwater drainage and to minimize percolatioh of stormwater through the <br />Tailings Pond. The constructed drainage goes around the Tailings Pond, through <br />a culvert under State Hwy 110-6, and is directed towards the Animas River. <br />The drainage at the culvert was dry, No Discharge. <br />8. Tai(tr gi s Pond # 4 Upland Ground Water Diversion. This project directs upland <br />ground water into a lined ditch and around Tailings Pond # 4, thereby minimizing <br />ground water from intruding into Tailings Pond # 4. The ground water is directed <br />into a lined ditch, flows around Tailings Pond # 4, down near the Solid Waste <br />Transfer Station, through a culvert under State Hwy 110-8 into the "iron bog <br />wetlands", and towards the Animas River. There was a small amount of standing <br />water in the culvert, but no visible flow and No Discharge. <br />
