M- /997- i78 <br />The Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment -Water Quality Control Division <br />("WQCD") Durango District Office conducted a routine inspection of the wastewater treatment <br />facility ("WWTF") for the Sunnyside Gold Mine -American Tunnel on May 29, 2002. Enclosed is <br />your copy of that inspection report. <br />During the inspection, the following items were noted and need to be brought to your attention: <br />1. No deficiencies and no problems were noted during the inspection. <br />2. The hydraulic loading on the treatment facilities during the time of inspection was approx. <br />280 gpm (of mine drainage) plus approx. 1250 gpm (of Cement Creek stream flow) for a <br />total hydraulic loading of approx. 1530 gpm or 2.2 MGD (million gallons per day). The <br />treatment process consists of; pH adjustment with hydrated lime addition, flocculent <br />addition, flow through a series of 4 settling ponds, with discharge into Cement Creek <br />which flows into the Animas River. <br />3. Sunnyside Gold's Silverton Office and atl Recordkeeping is at this site. <br />4. No active mining or milling is occurring, onry reclamation and maintenance activities. <br />A formal response to this inspection letter is 02S required from the Sunnyside Gold Corporation. <br />Thank you for your time and cooperation.
