<br />Section 785.19 (e) Continued. <br />(ii) The proposed operations would not materially damage in the quantity <br />and quality of water in surface and underground water systems that <br />supply those alluvial valley floors which are-- <br />(A) Included in clause (1)(i) of this paragraph (e); or <br />(B) Outside the permit area of an existing or proposed surface coal <br />mining operation. <br />(A) Salt tolerances for agricultural crops have been published by E. V. <br />Maas and G. J. Hoffman, in a paper titled, "Crop Salt Tolerance-Current <br />Assessment" contained in The Journal of The Irrigation and Drainage <br />Division, American Society of Civil Engineers, pages 115 through 134, <br />June, 1977. Table 1, giving threshold salinity values is presented on <br />pages 22 through 125. <br />• (B) This publication is hereby incorporated by reference as it exists <br />on the date of adoption of this Part. Notices of changes made to this <br />publication will be periodically published by the Office of Surface <br />Mining in the Federal Register. The Maas and Hoffman publication is on <br />file and available for inspection at the OSM Central Office, U. S. <br />Department of Interior, South Interior Building, Washington, D.C. 20240, <br />at each OSM Regional Office and at the central office of State regula- <br />tory authorities located west of the 100th meridian, west longitude. <br />Copies of the publication may also be obtained by writing to the above <br />locations. A copy of this publication will also be on file for public <br />inspection at the Federal Register Library, 1100 L Street N. W., Washington, <br />D.C. Incorporation by reference provisions approved by the Director of <br />the Federal Register on February 7, 1979. The Director's approval of <br />this incorporation by reference expires on February 7, 1980. <br />(ii) Potential increases in the concentration of total dissolved solids <br />. of waters supplied to an alluvial valley floor in excess of those <br />incorporated by reference in paragraph (i) shall not be allowed unless <br />785-23 <br />
